Mammut 8mm doubles are nice. You could get one now, use for what you need and later, when/if you get into technical alpine/rock/ice, you only need to buy a second rope.

I would not cut the 60m into half, if you end needing 30m, buy the Beal Rando, awesome rope that I end up carrying "just in case" on many occasions.

Do not buy twins.
