I've been going over the forums looking for a burrito place that was mentioned a while back, but I can't seem to find it. All I can remember is it was mentioned, I believe, by someone that had worked there, and I believe it wasn't on the main street going through town (Hwy395). Can anyone help me out here? It might not be a dedicated Mexican restaurant, rather a place that makes burritos on the side.

Just to clarify, I'm NOT talking about:
Taqueria Las Palmas
La Casita
Amigos
Petite Pantry

Those are the only places I am familier with but checked on Yelp and found another place you might look into (Im assuming your not talking about Taco Bell??

You might be referring to the Chevron station in Big Pine. Great place. Tables out front with good views of Sill and Birch, though the atmosphere inside still leaves a lot to be desired. Just get it to go and have drive 5 minutes for your atmospheric choosing—river-front, sage, pine forest, lake-side dining.

Sorry, but no one's gonna dis my Cancun enchilada at Amigo's (chicken, sundried tomatoes, apricots, mango...). But, after braving it on the way into the Sierra, I'm afraid Gusto is correct: as good as it is you're better off with it post-hike than pre-.

As far as Amigo's, I've only been there a couple of times. I do know a buddy of mine claims they have the best Mexican food in Bishop, but my personal favorite is Taqueria Las Palmas.

As for pre versus post burritos... I remember one time eating at Bonanza the night before I went and did Mt. Russel. We left around 2 or so in the morning, so the burrito was still fresh in my system. By the time I hit those sandy slopes up past Upper Boyscout Lake.... Well, let's just say I was glad it was only me and buddy Dave around because it was EXPLOSIVO. Kind of made a mini-mountain, if you know what I'm saying.

That would be me. There's a newer Mexican place (roughly across from Schat's). Thanks to Google street view I scrounged up the name: The Loco Frijole. I haven't had their burritos. Their tortas were OK.

Stopped by the Chevron place on the way home. Damn good burritos! Not a place I would go out of my way to eat on a Friday or Saturday night, but perfect for a bite to eat on the way home. No food sitting in trays or anything like that. Meats are cooked after you order, and they offered fresh avocado. Yum! I wish they had some shades for the tables outside. That would be extra-sweet. Would definitely stop by there again.

As for Las Palmas... Man, every time I go there the burritos are freakin' fantastic. Buffalo Burrito, Enchilada Style with the Birria (BBQ pork). In my personal opinion, the BEST restaurant style burrito I've ever had, not just on the east side.

Forgot to mention this place located behind Spellbinder Books. (Next to the Galen Rowel museum and ALSO accessed from the same parking lot as Taqueria Las Palmas).

Sorry guys most of the burrito places in Bishop blow! Well......maybe that's harsh, but I moved here from the bay area where you could find great mexican food at a myriad of taquerias and not shell out a ton of money. All of the sit down mexican restaurants in Bishop are either ok or bad and the burritos are ten dollars (not including tax, tip, drink)!

But the saving grace for Bishop is the cart on the corner of 395 and barlow. They have really good burritos and they are five dollars flat! No other mexican food restaurant in this town can top that. The only downside is that they are only there on the weekends. Fri, Sat, and Sun from 4-11pm.
