Looks like they did plow it! So maybe TP will re-open after all!

Owens Gorge..... when the pass closes, the crowds thin out.

I think this weekend is going to be pretty nice, the snow will melt quickly, everything will be washed down, all nice and shinny.

Nice to know that the pass may open sooner than next spring :)

Sounds like a lot of snow may have gotten dropped above 10000'. Anyone hazard a guess if the couloirs on Dana & North Peak are 'out' for the season ?

Been discussing this with another SP'er ..

edit: Caltrans reports Tioga Pass reopened at noon !

North peak or Dana

by rowantrollope » Thu Oct 15, 2009 8:40 pm

We were planning (before the storm) North Peak, Dana Couloir or Palisade (U-Notch) this weekend. Anyone have any guess on conditions?

With everything I've read it seems like they might all be out, but any other opinions?

According to the phone recording, Tioga Pass is already reopened, that was quick!

****Be advised, I would stay off anything that has 30-40deg slope. AVY Conditions are prime for disaster through the weekend.****

Headed to North Peak Weds... Maybe Ice Nine next Monday/Tues.

These last two events were prime for forming the illusive Queen of the Sierra.

On Saturday, went to Crater Mountain near Mono Lake. Some of the best Sierra views I've seen.

Was surprised to see only 3 people sign summit log this year. Also, I found a summit log dated on 1966, brought up by Joe Kurtak. Cool. Below some pics.

I see that Hwy 120 through the park, and Tioga Pass, are closed again. Anyone have any info on whether it will be plowed again?
