Not exactly backcountry skiing, but Mammoth Mountain opens this Friday and whoever shows up on Friday, rides for free.

Wow. An October 16 opening. Good thing I scraped that late season trip over Taboose Pass.

Hey Chief,

Any chance the upper mountain will be open on saturday or sunday?

Do you know what chairs are running on friday? So far I have only seen Broadway.

Thanks,

Dan

ONE to start with on Friday.

I imagine they will open up THREE this Weekend as well.

Don't count on the top. But ya never know... Maybe Cornice Bowl.

Sweet! Just checked the website at http://www.mammothmountain.com. Lookin' good!

Of all the mountains I skiied in CA, Mammoth and Alpine Meadows were always my favorites. Thank heavens Intrawest decided to leave Mammoth alone before they completely butchered it (like they did Winter Park).

I miss working and living there. . . :( I lived there off and on in the 80's, before the major developments took place. Very nice place to live. Miss walking here and there and hearing my boots squeak in the new-fallen snow. . . Hope to take my son skiing there someday soon. Enjoy, Chief, and others who live in those environs!

According to their website, several days of sun and warm night temps have melted too much snow and caused a closure of the lifts.

I made it on Friday. 3 lifts opened. Snow was pretty decent and the lines were only long in the morning. Was a pleasure in the afternoon...

They shut down the ops this morning.... record temps melted out the bottom.

Colder temps brewing. They should start blasting snow soon if not tonight.
