He has it correct, that threw me as well but if you look at google terrain and the way the peaks align from Baldy it makes sense. Your looking at Olancha in a Northeasterly direction and Olancha is the closest of the three. So if your driving up 395 once you are around Olancha your change your heading to northwest so Langley and Whitney would align slighly left of Olancha.

Ok, that's what I figured. So, basically Olancha and Langley are (south)east of Whitney, which is the only way this would work.

Correct

Amazing...It's great to meet a geography geek that is more hardcore than me. Nice work. The position of these peaks is a revelation to me. Excuse me while I go reorganize my mind.

Not bad!

I think you can see the Sierra on the right side of this shot from San Gorgonio taken last week. (I was up there 3 weeks ago and I believe I saw them with my own eyes) This would be 185 miles or so!

Pretty neat, huh? Kind of almost a reverse of the Whitney-San Gorgonio shot......

By the way, my "fancy software" is just Microsoft Excel, and I did all the math and wrote all the Visual Basic code for this myself. I spent a lot of time but no money.

You are one humble man. Anyone that's written a lick of code will immediately see the amazing talent you have to produce that ...especially with Excel.

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. They are really appreciated.

Here is a simulated aerial view in the direction of Mount Whitney from directly above Mount San Antonio, at elevation 300,000 feet (about 56.8 miles above sea level). The black lines are meridians, running due north-south. The red lines are the California state boundary. From this elevation, Oregon can be seen on the horizon.

This may help people visualize the relative locations of the peaks and the perspective from the direction of Mt. San Antonio.

The colors are completely based on elevation, not actual Earth colors.

As with the previous image, my program is capable of producing a better-resolution image of the topography, but I wanted to make one quickly for display here, so this is the low-res version:
