Gear closet? Who has the time or patience to sort all that crap?

Where's my rack? Let's see... hold on! I think it's in the big green tub marked "Christmas Deco's". I know that rope is in here somewhere! Wait, I know, check the storage tubs in the garage... or maybe the big duffle bag up on the rack with the other camp gear. Oh! Oh! I know!!! It's in the back-pack with my climbing shoes and a year and a half old Power bar. (It's still good, isn't it?) Or maybe I left it in the hall closet with the backpack and mountain boots. Damn! I know it's around here somewhere...

(I'm tellin' ya... it'd take a bunch of photos to show just where everything is. But I know it's there... somewhere.)

Our gear room was the trunk of the Mercedes for many years

Now it's all in the garage.

Now that was a high class gear room  Mine used to be in the trunk of a beater '71 Plymouth-right next to the spare oil and car battery. Never did figure out what that white powdery stuff was on my rope... :?

Haha, well, it was pretty cheap since it's a 2000 but it's still in the family as our snowplow  . Just doesn't get driven every day anymore.

Holy crap there's no way I'm posting a pic of my gear ROOM (closet? are you kidding? you obviously don't have enough gear!) on here after seeing all those pics. I still haven't unpacked from my last trip 2 months ago and the floor is knee deep in gear. Swine flu kicked my ass so bad I couldn't even make it to the bathroom in time to throw up let alone clean my gear room. Maybe over Christmas...

I hope someone answers the hanging ropes question. Ropes look badass hanging on the wall but I keep mine in big plastic tubs because I always assumed that you shouldn't hang them long term. Hopefully someone who is a bigger climbing geek than me will chime in.

Ropes hang in shops. They hang on walls (the rock kind.) I think there are a lot worse things we do to ropes. Neatly coiled (or not) and out of the sun in a stable temp and environment probably is the least of the worries.

edit: if their hanging long term....you aren't getting out often enough...
