 You may be right Rob -- when I try to access that site directly I get this message:

"The Websense category "Web Hosting" is filtered."

This has been educational. I had no idea that the files on the server had to have a MIME-type header. I guess that makes sense, but I've blissfully thought that my browser was just reading the extensions and using brief error checking on the raw binaries.

Apparently the IT department prefers llama porn to mountain porn

Ok, this is really strange. Now that I'm logged in remotely, using exactly the same laptop, and instead of being hard-wired through a firewall/router and on a wireless network using VPN instead, I can see the images without any issue whatsoever. Bizarre!

rhyang wrote:Here is a nasty hack which will change the file association on your machine for .jpg files to firefox -

1. Right-click on a .JPG file in Explorer; click Properties.
2. Click the 'Change' button in the Opens With section.
3. In the Open With window, select (or browse to) Firefox.
4. Now go to the image on SP and click on it -- you will get the download window. The Open With box should already have firefox selected.
5. Click 'Do this automatically for files like this ..' box. Press OK.
6. The file will download and display in a browser tab.

One side effect is that things like image preview will send the image to Firefox instead of your image editor when you click Ctrl-E (I'm sure you can think of others). You can still right-click on the image in Explorer and select Open With though ..

Hopefully this will only be temporary.

Thanks !
Meantime it looks like the problem doesn't occur anymore, for some reason...

So am I the only one who cannot see any images now? It sounds like everyone else got their problems solved... Oh well.

A name change might help: let me know and I'd be happy to help, just like last time.

Did something happen with the new image server? I don't know why, but just today all the SP images, including my own, just showed back up for me! Yea!

Some small problems for me resolved also!

by silversummit » Mon Dec 21, 2009 9:57 pm

We had been forced to use an older version of IE here at work until last week. Well, finally someone allowed us to upgrade IE and all SP images now display correctly. Since the server change I had several of my own images with the dreaded red X (in small .jpg) but only here at work. They were fine at home in IE and of course, in Firefox :D

Bringing IE up to 7.0xxxx whatever and your magic did the trick for me!!!

Thanks guys for all your hard work each and every day!

Totally agree :)

Anyway, I notice that the same kind of thing happens for BMP images, like this one -

http://www.summitpost.org/view_object.p ... _id=584171

Clicking on any of the image types (Orig, Med, Small, Thumb) results in a download or save window. Just an fyi ..

Testing to see if the image posts in the forum ..

Image

Nope, I guess not ..
