I just got these boots friday; tried them on a short walk (30min) near the house that night. My left foot was fine, but my right foot, on the inside near the arch, I felt some aching/fatigue in my foot. It wasn't a hotspot or rubbing, it was causing discomfort almost like it was really tired and aching.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the footbed of the boot and the arch in my foot. But it seems odd only my right foot would experience this, and not my left. My left fits fine.

I could take it to a boot fitter, but would like to here some opinions/suggestions first, before I pay more.

Just curious, are you using inserts like superfeet or custom orthotics? I might try those first and see if they make a difference. My podiatrist said the Superfeet are actually pretty good.

I have the same boots and absolutely love them. I recommend changing out the insoles or look into maybe there is an issue with your feet before you contemplate returning them.

Maybe I have a collasped arch in my right foot so the arch in the footbed feels uncomfortable? I'll do more googling

It's definitely possible to have one arch worse than the other. I have this in my left arch, probably becausse I had some off-and-on knee problems in my right leg several years ago and compensated for it by using my left foot more heavily (I have been a regular runner for 30+ years and was doing a lot of mileage in prep for a marathon at that time). The net result is that my left foot is flatter, tends to get plantar fasciitis more often, and is slightly longer than my right foot. It also means that when I am wearing mountaineering boots, including my Nepals, I sometimes get blisters under my left arch when my right arch is fine. I've recently swapped out superfeet green insoles for a pair of thermoformed insoles ("Ed Viesturs") which seem to be more comfortable on the moderate distance test hikes I've taken in them.

RE: the arches in my feet, is this something I can determine on my own, or do I need to go to a specialist?

I sprained my left ankle this summer, and got achilles tendinitis in the right, so I think it's possible my arch could have been affected.

The stock Nepal insoles are useless, as are most other LS insoles. Get some SuperFeet. They provide good arch and heel support. If you want even more support, get some PowerStep insoles. Available online for $29.

Maybe I will try superfeet this evening then; green or orange?
Which PowerStep would you recommend?

That's the wrong attitude when purchasing boots. If it doesn't fit you well, then it doesn't matter what everyone else says, it's still the wrong boot for you.

Get the green SuperFeet. The orange ones don't last nearly as long. For PowerStep, get the original model. They make a Pinnacle model that is padded but its junk compared to the original.

BTW... my Nepal Evo's are still breaking in and I've had them for a year now. I was worried at first because I was getting blisters on my Achilles area. Through time they have really softened up. They get more and more comfortable after each trip.

A lot of people of asymmetric feet. Trick is to find a pair that compromises between both feet.

Would thermo-mold insoles help at all? Mold specifically to each foot?
MEC has some Montrail ones for $35. Should I try these instead of Superfeet? They didn't have the green ones so I am still looking for them.
