Speaking of which, I've taken over The Tooth of Time and updated it today. And Woodzy is working on some of the other Philmont mountains. He served on staff there, I believe, so he may have climbed some of our missing ones (Urraca Mesa crosses my mind, too). --mark d.

I hiked Black Mountain in 2007. If we have a little time I may be able to put a page together.

Anyone know anything about Alegres Peak in NM? Seems like an intriguing mountain, but I can't find any info on it. Possible private property issues?

I had not noticed Alegres before. Thanks for pointing it out! I think Broke Off, northwest of Tres Piedras looks interesting too.

Isn't Black on Philmot property? Did you get permission?

I was an advisor on a Philmont crew in 2007. The crew leader knew how much I liked going up so we hit every peak near our route. The ladybugs on the summit were obnoxious.

Ohhh, I didn't even see this thread. I still have two more peaks to post on Philmont (Sheafers and Hart Peak). I didn't get up to Black and Bear. I spent all my free time off ranch pretty much, but I'll hit them this next summer. I didn't exactly get to the top of Urraca, but I don't think it meets SP standards for a peak (prominence yes, but being a "peak" not really)

I scouted this one back about 2007, coming off of US-60 near Pie Town and Quemado. It's surrounded by private property. Those who have climbed it followed a jeep track not on the map, and cross country to the top. Obviously w/o permission. It's hard to get close to the peak w/o being on private land somewhere along the line.

The only web references I've seen are from real-estate sites selling big properties around the area.

Is the peak itself on private property?
