Home Training

by Apex » Thu Jan 14, 2010 12:23 am

Hello everyone,

So after watching that amazing home bouldering video, I have become somewhat inspired. My question today is this:

Is there any way to train at home/practice techniques for climbing if you cannot access a gym?

I live in a dorm residence, and the closest climbing gym is still about an hour bike ride away (I don't have a car). And even if my busy student schedule allows time to go to the gym, it is usually only once a month that I can make it. After watching that home bouldering video a couple of my friends and I have been trying to boulder in our dorms, without great success, but hey, its fun

Thanks for all the help,
-Apex

Something I always used to do, when I had two bunk beds, was trying to swing from one to the other.

You have two bunk beds about a meter apart, running parallel, and then you start, hanging horizontal from the top bed of one and swing to the other. It was always a blast and still pretty tiring if you do it 10 times.

Just a thought.

Thanks,

And as far as technique goes Im really out of ideas... I've kind of practiced crimping on door frames which is decent. I guess I'm just really really bored and wanting to climb, though my schedule doesn't offer the much time to get out, even to the gym.

Buildering

Buildering!

-That crack in the concrete wall.
-Chimney in between two buildings
-OW between the teacher's thighs...
-Crimpfests on brick walls/stonewalls
-Slopers in the girl's dorm, the ladies will thank you ;-)

Don't get caught and have fun!

Seriously, it's an awesome way of climbing if lacking the facilities!
