Softshell Pants that fit

by Pallando » Tue Feb 02, 2010 2:52 am

Does anyone know any company that might make pants with a 36" inseam? Particularly without having to have a 38" waist? I'm having difficulties finding a good fit.

Usually, I just go too short and wear gaiters. But in the instances where gaiters aren't necessary, it's kind've ridiculous. I shouldn't need more than pants to cover my ankles.

Try that with a 30" waist. Or better yet, look for 30" x 34" dress pants at a department store. Grrrr! Stupid fat Americans are ruining shopping for the rest of us.

(Totally useless post, I know...)

I have a 34" inseam and a 28" waist. The only pants I have ever been able to find in this size (and they're great!) are Patagonia Guide pants. I'd look into it, you might be able to find a pair in your size.

I have some Arc'Teryx softshell pants that are fairly long. Mine are supposedly XL and measure 39x34.8 but they feel longer. Might we worth looking into trying some of those on.

Mountain Hardwear. For each pant size (S, M, L etc) they make 3 subsizes: short, reg, and long. Or at least for some of their shell pants. That's how I (5'11" 145#) got pants that fit.

I wear 30x34 and have little problem finding pants: jeans, dress, or climbing. Sure, I can't get my size in any pair of pants, anywhere I look, but most outdoor companies have a "long" inseam which is usually 34", at least on their more popular pants.

31" 36" isn't an easy find either. I feel like there would be more of a market for smaller waists and longer legs. I know some people are perfectly fit and have a 38" waist, but I feel like it's much more common to have smaller waists/longer legs.

Try Wild Things Gear Mountain Guide Pants. They will custom make to your specifications for a small additional charge.

Doesn't First Ascent make clothing for "talls" ? If anything, I've got a 32 waist and a sub 30 inseam... I'm always in the market for "shorts" and never have much luck myself but Mountain Hardwear pants havn't let me down and as mentioned, they do make each size in 3 subsizes.

Although, stores that I've seen only seem to stock the "regular" subsize, not the short or long. So I either pick up the regular or order online for a "short". You may have that problem too, guess there's not a huge market for talls or shorts overall so can't find stores that stock it.

Usually the "tall" is 30" waist and 34" inseam. That falls off my waist. It was very frustrating driving all over Seattle to find a single pair of pants that fit.
