I have noticed that if my skins are not wide enough to cover the entire base, my skis sometimes slip on some steeper sections. This was a bane I used to have with my stock burton skins on my splitboard. the problem went mostly away when I had a skin that spanned the entire with of the ski.

But for those wide planks, you might just consider the split skins because the slip really comes from the sides.
