As you may have noticed from my other thread, I am planning to climb Rainier this summer.

I did have a question to those who have done either the emmons route from camp shurman or the Ingarahm from Muir. Any areas that would definitely need use of running pro?

No, nothing I can think of immediately. Both routes are cattle routes. The only situations you may find, depending on the time you are climbing, are thin bridges or having to jump crevasses entirely. Other than that, you will not need any running pro.

never been to Rainier so I am choosing one of those two routes b/c of it.

I don't really care to get into a debate over what is and what isn't an adventure based on going guided/unguided or which route one chooses. Adventure is in the eyes and minds of the beholder in my opinion. I've been up Denali and have the skills to climb Rainier, but I am not going to just jump into the hardest route Rainier has to offer either.

I have done both the Emmons and DC multiple times. I have never used running pro, although on the DC I have seen fixed lines on the steepest part which is gaining the cleaver itself. There is also occasionally fixed pickets in exposed areas which you can clip to, sort of like between the 17k camp and Denali pass.

No need for the running pro on those routes. I've done the Emmons route a few times, and I'm just going to throw my vote in for that one. It will be less crowded, and it's a more direct route.

yeah, I think I would like the climb up to camp shurman. I know it is longer, but it is more scenic from what I have read and heard.
