I've decided to open up a new forum under the banner of the mountains of East Central Europe. Please use the English language (not necessarily correct ) here so that everybody can participate regardless of their native – Czech, German, Hungarian, Polish, Slovak, Romanian, Rusyn, Ukrainian or Gascon - language. Our East Central Europe is supposed to stand for the mountains and hills that rise within the right-hand half - east or north of the Alps - of what's called Central European on this map, namely the Bohemian Massif in the west, the Carpathian ranges north of the lower Danube in the south-east, and all that's in between, e.g. the volcanoes by Lake Balaton or the hills, crags and caves of Moravia or Krakow-Czestochowa Jura.

Just have a look at the bottom of page 30 (at the big teeth of EU) just now (I'm afraid some of the pages may go offline over time)

Page 3 has typos: Piatra Cramlui instead of the correct Piatra Craiului (the word's origin: "Király-hágó" - King Pass)

Otherwise it has an objective short summary of history.

As for backyard pig slaugthers, it's also an issue in Hungary. As for the mountain cheese and other milk-stuff, I guess some Brussels bureaucrats shall taste the real thing and compare them with those off of the shops' shelves And the ultimate argument: about 1 kg of dirt has to be consumed annually to keep your immune system in shape

These - without doubt - great mountains rise a bit west of Central Europe, which surely is a shame.

However they form the Westernmost end of the Carpathian arc, isn't it ? (furthermore their continuity even more West is in an area called "Galicia" )

Well, I'm sure the genetic make-up of both the lynx living in Slovenia and the bears to be found in the Pyrenees will provide further support for your theory.
