Anza-Borrego Flowers?

Postby Deb » Wed Mar 10, 2010 3:48 am

I know it's not far down the road from me, but are there any recent reports of "big bloomage" in Anza-Borrego yet? :) I'd love to take a nice long run out there this weekend and view the wildflowers.

Was out there two weeks ago and the desert was GREEN. Not a lot of color when I was there, but that could change in a day.

it's hit or miss down there. A lot of the green you're seeing is actually weeds which won't have showy flowers.

For a really comprehensive analysis of the blooms check this page out: http://tchester.org/bd/blooms/2010.html

But the short answer is that the timing of the rains this year wasn't ideal for a widespread show. If you know where to look there are definitely some nice spots though.

I went out the Anza borrego yesterday. It is nice and green and yet there still a lot to bloom. The usual spots were better than I remember from a year ago. Di giorgio road had a decent cover of flower, Henderson canyon road had nice patches of desert sun flowers. Ocotillos were blooming near the visitors center. I think Culp valley still needed more time, but the heat this week is sure to speed things up.

Debbie, Pen and I were there yesterday too, up in Coyote Canyon. Compared to other years, the flowers are not that great this spring, still nice to see (as every year) but not the carpets of flowers of some previous years. it seems that a lot of the flower species have yet to bloom, the cactuses are not yet blooming at all. As the last post indicated, it might still get a bit better, next week or so.

just got a report that things aren't quite full bloom yet. Forecast is warming, so next weekend may be the ticket after Woodshun.

Sounds good for next week. I ended up not going thanks to a hoppin' party and more wine than I realized. :? Besides, it was [/i]WINDY!
