Midwest Mountaineering in Minneapolis is having their 50th outdoor expo April 23-25.
They have a list of free programs and classes offered as well as film presentations in the evenings that you have to buy tickets for.

This will be my first time attending the expo, has anyone else been to one of their expo's and what did ya think about it?

WOW! That list of speakers seems very long for a two day event. Too bad I will be climbing in Idaho that weekend otherwise I would be poking around.

Lots of good seminars. Be sure to go to Thrifty Outfitters upstairs, some of the best prices on gear I've found. I live close so I tend to drift in & out, but some people spend the whole weekend there.

be sure to come by and say hello, I work in the climbing and footwear areas.

Looking forward to it, I guess my brother and I will be weekenders since we have film tix for Friday and Saturday night. We are trying to nail a nice tent spot near the river close by, but not sure what would work. There are plenty of riverfront parks in town, but no camping (permitted anyway) that we know of without heading out of urban. Which only makes it more of a quest

I wish you luck but I don't think you will find a legal spot. Kinda funny when I read it because it would be like trying to find a camping spot in the center of any major city. Just not going to happen. There are probably some tucked away spots down by the river but you'd be fending off the homeless and they would be very jealous of your gear

If you want to be near the show you will have to get a room. I guess you could try to sleep in a car somewhere but your closest camp option is probably at least 45 minutes away.

Was jokin' about camping in the city Tonka, I know better. A group of us did stay the night on Harriet Island after Lollapalooza in '92, pretty sure we were not legal doing that either. Thinking back on it, we probably looked like a homeless clan as well, maybe that's how we got away with it. We're probably going to camp at Willow River SP next weekend.

We are heading here, http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/153215/galena-peak.html It's just north of Sun Valley in the Sawtooths.

I've never been to it but I will definitely try to get there this year.

Edit: After reading more about it, I will need to find a way to be in multiple places at once in order to get more speakers in.

Great speakers today. I went to a Pacific Crest Trail one, Beyond Machu Picchu, and one on K2. All great times. Looking forward to a couple more tomorrow, might even go to the Machu Picchu one again.

The next Expo is coming up on Nov. 19-21st.

I only got to three presentations in April, but I'm hoping to go to quite a few this time around.
