Anyone know if Onion Valley Road is open to the trail head? White Mountain ranger station says yes, Permit Office in Lone Pine says you can get to within 2 miles.

Is the gate still locked on Horseshoe Meadows Road???

No, you're not missing it. I did though...

I posted the wrong link. Sorry. This link doesn't have the more recent beta you are looking for. I could have sworn I saw one just a few days ago. In it someone said that if you just skirt a boulder or two on the road you could get up quite a ways. If not to the trail head, then fairly close to it. I can't seem to find it though.

BTW, there are several threads with the same title (Onion Valley Road conditions). Maybe that's where the confusion comes from.

think it will stay that way for the upcoming weekend? Looked like maybe a storm was moving in midweek?

would be nice to drive up there and get some snowshoeing in this weekend

Is the summer trailhead near the campground, I assume they are in the same area. This may be a silly question but I am not familiar with the area. Thanks

Yeah conditions should be great this coming weekend. It's difficult to say what will happen with the storm this weekend. Have a plan B ready to go in case you can't get up there.

Yeah it's all in the same area. As of Sunday the road was not plowed where the campground is. I don't know what the plans are to plow it but if my memory is correct that campground doesn't typically open until sometime in May.
