Seeing as Rainier just got 8 feet of fresh apparently, and we're flying out to attempt it in 2 weeks I have the sudden urge to bring skis instead of snowshoes. Not looking to do some epic ski descent off the summit, as I'm no expert downhiller, but just avoid a slow slog going up atleast until 10k or so...

Looking to possibly do a Non-DC route out of Paradise (maybe Kautz?) depending on avy conditions.

Does Whittaker rent decent AT gear? Fitted Skins included?

It will probably end up being crappy weather and we can't get above 10k anyway (this is my attempt at reverse psychology with the weather gods)...

Skis are the way to go this time of year. Not sure if Whitaker rents AT gear but Marmot Mountain Works in Bellevue, Pro Ski in North Bend, and Feathered Friends in Seattle does

The last time I checked Whitakers did not rent AT gear but it was about 2 years ago when I checked.

I think Backpackers Supply in Tacoma rents AT gear.
