scalability == facilite' de changer d'echelle. C'est-a-dire qu'on peut grandir (plus d'utilisateurs, plus de contenus) sans problemes. Ce n'est pas la meme chose que la facilite' de changer / ajouter les fonctions.

I could be wrong but can't you upgrade from phpbb2 to phpbb3 pretty easily?

Ah that makes sense then. I suppose a complete site redesign would be a woefully insane project not worth the work. I would hate to have to do the same thing on my website!

I, for one, don't want others to know when I read my PMs.

If somebody thinks your PM is important enough to respond to, or even read, they will do so.

I think the question was if the system could send you an e-mail when you received an incoming PM, not send one to the creator when you opened your incoming one. I may be wrong.

What's the point of that?
If so, why not send an email to a member directly, in that case?

most members are on this site for some years but have changed emailadresses

a) if they're active, they see their own email adress, so it's rather noticeble if it's wrong

b) if they're not active, and have changed emailaddress - what's the point of sending an email to a faulty emailaddress, saying there's a PM here? It won't reach the member.

Matt was just asking if this was possible. He clearly sees some benefit to it, and I can understand why some folks would. If the feature existed there will be some who see no point to it. Those people would be free not to use it.

Some prefer to send email, some prefer PM. The person sending gets to make the decision. But Matt is talking about an option for the reciever to decide how they get the message. That's the difference. They may always, or temporarily, be in a situation where email is more accessible, and perfer to notified if they have messages waiting.

Options are always good, to each his own way to do things.

If it can't be done within the current system, I don't see a great disadvantage.

do I really care? No.

why wouldn't I?

Quite a lot of nagging and griping going on about which version the forums ought to be built upon. Well, I think it works just fine.

The thing I think ought to be done, is to give the elves more access than they have today to certain things, but as to upgrade? Hassle.

I can't tell if you're serious or trolling.

I believe the knowledge of how Internet works varies a great deal among the elves, yes
but I think you don't quite know what you are talking about, instead you assume
it has been stated several times what parts they don't have access to

:D
I also think it might be wise to not underestimate Internetknowledge among your older peers
there are some who worked with it while you still were in elementary school
who therefore carry quite a lot of tricks in their bags
