Has anyone been over Kearsarge Pass or over to Rae Lakes recently? How were the snow conditions, any postholing? Thanks...

We hiked up to the pass two weekends ago. On the descent (~10:30 a.m. - 12), we postholed a few times, but I probably would not have bothered to put snowshoes on even if we brought them. I'm guessing that, in the afternoon, postholing would have been more of a problem.

Oh, I was sure hoping to see some pics of Gould. Would like to do a ski decent off that puppy next week. Snow coverage looks awesome over Pothole, any shots of Gould?

Not Kearsarge Pass, but just north of there - I was on Diamond Peak yesterday. The snow conditions were perfect - I was able to just glide along on top and no suncups. Patchy snow starts about 9500' with lots of snow above 10000'. It seems to be about an average snow year in that area (nothing like 2005).

Nice pics and climb too

Some friends and I went up University Peak North face on 6-6-10. We skiied down late, dropping in after 430pm and the snow was very soft and soupy, with tired legs, making it a tough descent, but great turns and fun nontheless.

Heres a shot at the bottom of the NF after we descended


Looking over to Kearsarge pass and coming up the trail, i can say that it is still mostly snow from the matlock lake trail crossing all the way to the pass. We could see the bootpack switchbacking up above pothole lake up to the pass. The snow was soft yesterday.

Here are the photos of my recent trip over Kearsarge, Glen Pass, up Mount Clarence King, and down North Dragon Pass - LOTS of snow, but melting very fast.

I am planning on taking a newbie over kearsarge pass next monday (6-21) and was curious if anyone has any more recent photos or description of snow cover. Will we need to bring ice ax/crampons? The newbie I am taking has never traversed snow so I am a little worried if it still looks like it did when Romain went. If conditions are still like that, I need to find another destination.
