Starr King/Clark conditions

by Misha » Sat May 29, 2010 1:51 am

Has anyone recently ventured to Starr King or Clark from Happy Isles or Mono Meadows. I am wondering how much snow is on the ground - thinking about a quick stint this weekend. Thanks!

Answered my own question. Clark would make a nice mountaineering adventure right now. Bring ice axe, crampons, boots and patience. Starr King is very climbable via SE Saddle from Mono Meadows (we were first to park near the trailhead, use that trail and summit this year)

Beautiful country up there! Prepare to cross some knarly creeks. I can post some photos if anyone's interested

Alois - if you're thinking to go up Starr King, I'd go soon... awesome scenery with all the snow and melting water. We ran into two bears within one hour! They are still running the show there. No people at all. Bring footwear to cross creeks in; you'd need it. For Clark, I'd definitely wait. Yosemite rangers anticipate that water flow in creeks/rivers will peak next week.
