in France, it is illegal (and risky) to use or reproduce IGN scanned maps.
I recommend rather using the (legal) tool of embedded IGN maps, like :

(like I have done for all my pages of peaks in France)
You can zoom until the 1/25000 scale like on the blue series
For Swiss and Italy, no idea. But I've seen something similar for Austria, Czech and Slovenia.

The whole site is explained, just use Google translate. You can import GPX files to display them, or export GPX files that you draw. I have no GPS so I cannot tell you about Garmin, but I read many times that people export their routes as GPX files to view them via this tool, and additionally they plan trips with the map and load them after into the GPS.

Very interesting pps Eric. Which town are those people from Probably my young brother and his wife, who live in Zaragoza know any of them, their mountain club is Pirineos. Anyway, it seems a bit dangerous to be so many unroped people in the same route with such bad weather, though the highest grade could be III

I was used to look at this website before, on the Eastern Europe (or "yugo") pages, as I was living in Zagreb, and moving a lot around. I think we were even in contact, Eric, for some hike in Slovenia...
Anyway, after almost 7 years in the Balkans, I moved 2 months ago to Toulouse, so getting closer to the Pyrenees!!! I've been up there for the first time there last WE : Montcalm and pic de l'Estats, with a fantastic bivouac at the top of Montcalm.
I intend to continue discovering these moutains, still unknown for me. So I will try to look closer at this "pyrenean team discussion" and be more active on the forum!
