I am doing Mt Marcy this upcoming weekend. Any suggestions on clothing to bring? I was going to do standard hiking pants, and wicking long sleeve shirt. does anyone recomend warmer for to top?

You'll be fine. Maybe bring a lightweight wind shell for the summit or an unexpected rainshower.

definitely a rainshell. plus a fleece or light pile jacket (like down sweater). Adirondacks tend to be at least 10 degree cooler than downstate and that's in the valley. It gets pretty chilly up on the top. At the very least bring a wool hat.

Not really pertaining to clothing, (don't know how much High Peaks hiking you've done)but if you want to enjoy a peaceful summit get up there early. I did Table Top and Phelps this past weekend in a down pour, and we still passed at least 8 to 10 groups headed for Marcy. Regardless, hope you have an awesome trip. Cheers

Thanks. Yea i'll definitly be heading out early, plan is on mountain around 6:30am. I'll have to keep eye on weather as we get closer in week, but i'll plan for light shell at least.

Also how are the black flies doing now a days?

If camping bring warm clothes for the night, don't know bout flys now

flies were not too terrible on Memorial Day weekend, but it's been raining so much, the mosquitos are out of control!

Mount Marcy is very easy compared to other 46ers. Bring a good shell and pants.

Long sleeve wicking
Nylon pants
Winter hat
Rainjacket
Fleece vest

should be minimum clothing for the High Peaks all summer, IMO. If it is supposed to be really warm, I suppose you could leave the fleece.

Allright cool, I am excited haven't been to Adirondaks in awhile. This is first major hike of season for me, so it should be tough but fun.

Beautiful day. hiking pants were converted to shorts for duration and wicking long sleeve shirt was more than enough. Summit while windy was very comfortable and lots of people were hanging out casually eating sandwiches etc. trail was quite wet but hiking socks and gortex hiking boots kept feet nice and dry. I am sore today but overall it was a super fun time. then went to lake placid pub and brewery for dinner and beers.
