Yeah, and I've been taking a break from the beer, esp. during the week. But, hope to have a couple this weekend out at Smith, after I do some rad 5.10's!

Get some feedback from an insurance carrier. Used to manage a gym and it was considered very low risk at the time (10 years ago). Did a very short stint at a health club when they installed a wall, their insurance was unaffected by the building a climbing wall. In contrast every piece of weight / workout equipment had to be reviewed by insurance number crunchers and had a cost associated with bringing it into the club. Most expensive to insure at that club and most injuries were the tread mills..look up treadmill on youtube. Running on a moving surface is just plain dangerous! Climbing not so much.

I hate my job, drink to much, piss off my wife. But climbing 90' of hand jams and tearing the shit out of the tops of my feet................PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to be a nice guy. Really. Then I started climbing...


Then I just became an asshole. :roll:

Then I discovered Backcountry skiing. :D Now I forgot all about climbing. (It really messes up the bases if you try to ski back down after rock climbing) :wink:

Really hiking and a little bit of scrambling, not so much climbing for me, but I'm in the best shape I have pretty much ever been. Slightly better 2 years ago, but still better today than most other years of my existence.

Whether the school is government owned/run may make a difference in how much liability they're exposed to. But don't y'all have free health care like the rest of the civilised world? So the insurance costs would be a lot lower there than they would be here...

My school has a gym,

I met some of my best friends

learned how to properly go about basic climbing procedures

gained about 5lbs of muscle.

The one thing I have observed from being there about 5 days a week is that people are there to have fun and enjoy themselves and everyone feels welcomed hard to find in a college setting. We have people sign a waiver the first time they come then sign in after that, to belay you need to pass a test.

Sometimes it interferes with my drinking.

But if I'm on Shasta, no worries. There are always helicopter evacs available if I'm a bit too out of it to stand.
