ROFL Just drive up! No way this one belongs on the list. Not even in the top 150!

+1

prolly not even the top 1500!

most likely all the idiots from Boston do stupid things there is why it made the list.

If either of you were on that Mountain during a blizzard, which happens quite often, I think you would change your mind. Ask any experienced mountaineer, you don't want to be there in a snow storm.

And if you want some decent grounds for arguing, read this first, then throw your arguments this way.

Keep in mind, any mountain can be the most deadly mountain, if your not smart. Mountains closer to higher population are more dangerous because of the amount of traffic they see. The more traffic it sees, the more chances are available for disaster.

I'll check out Fossana's links later, but my whole life I have heard about what a dangerous mountain Mt Washington is. I always assumed it was the most dangerous in the US. It's not a challenging climb by Western US standards, but the weather changes so rapidly and severely that people are routinely killed after venturing up in shorts and tank top.

Damien Gildea wrote:Chalten dangerous? You say "the Mount Fitz Roy took many lives annually" but this is simply not true. Chalten goes years where nobody dies at all.

Otherwise, it's just a list of nice mountains.

With bad mistakes - for K2 you say ".. the sad reputation of "Killer of Women." From the six mountaineers who have climbed over time, only one, Edurne Pasaban of Spain, escaped with his life."

What about Nives Meroi, Ms. Oh Eun-Sun, Cecilie Skog? All these three women summiters are very much alive!

What about Minya Konka / Gonga Shan, a beautiful mountain where more people have died on it than have summited? Or Kawa Karpo, the holy mountain where 17 climbers were killed and no one has ever summited? Or Peak Lenin, where 43 climbers were killed in one avalanche?

+1 for
peak lenin- never have so many died on one mountain with so many countrys representing.

two day climb in the danger zone(avalanch prone) a merit to its dangoures nature and thats before getting to the main ridge.

Not a vote from me. I am simply pointing out that Mt Washington has a reputation as a widow-maker, and not because it has challenging terrain.

The opening post that started this thread was an attempt to promote a "blog" page that hosts advertising. That it started such a posting frenzy is simply icing on the cake, assuming the OP enjoys such things.

What makes Mount Washington dangerous (subjective term) is its accessibility. From downtown Boston, it's only an easy two-hour or so drive up I-93 to the Whites to some easy to reach trailheads and class 1 trails. La la la la ... and then wham you're dead.

Ahh. I didn't catch that, though I did think it was strange for someone to post something that seemed like it belonged on the Travel Channel, rather than a list that was truely informative and was based on some sort of actual information.

That's the point- it has a reputation, but compare it to other peaks out there and it is FAR FAR FAR from being the most dangerous based on any objective criteria. It's not even close!

I wouldn't even want to walk on a deserted road in the middle of Tahoe in a blizzard. Weather can change in any mountains quick, if in this one it changes quicker it doesn't make it 6th most dangerous in the world..Look at how many deaths and assisted rescues this year Shasta and Rainier had. And I won't advocate for any of these to be in top 10! lol

This is a joke

Don't get too fed up about it. As I indicated earlier, all these lists of "most dangerous" or most whatever" are meaningless and without any real value.

And that way Mount Fuji would disappear from the list!

Objective dangers, unexpected bad weather, over confidence, inexperience, a momentary lapse in judgement, equipment failure, or just plain bad luck..........any one of these can make any mountain dangerous at any moment.

Oh! I forgot one more.........the belief that the mountain you're climbing is not dangerous.

Mount Washington? lol. As you get on the summit and see kids running around with ice cream cones it becomes very obvious why people die on the rocky knob.

"success" being defined as getting up and back down. I'd consider summitting and dying on the descent as failure, especially if it were me...

Makes sense.
