Sonora Pass area conditions?

by no2haven » Fri Jul 09, 2010 9:12 pm

Anyone been up to the Kennedy Meadows/Summit Creek/Mosquito Pass/Black Hawk Mountain area recently? I'm thinking about doing a quick overnighter next weekend and I'm curious about snow conditions - the ranger talked about 2-3 feet around Sheep Camp and that Brown Bear Pass was impassable (via one hiker's report).

Thanks DMT...looks like you had a good time out there.

Heading out tomorrow afternoon, just a bump to see if anyone has any current info. Can't wait to give the mosquitoes a run for their money.

Does anyone know if the gate is open on the road to Leavitt Lake?

South of the pass on PCT has large ptches of snow...melting fast, passable.

Leavitt opened last week sometime.

Mosquitoes are sucking.

The Diamondback is as good as anything...not sure if it is opened on Sun. Pie in the Sky Pizza (above MiWuk) can be good also.

Have fun, it's really nice up there now.

Both Mias and Pie in the Sky are good. Just different styles of pizza. I like both places.

Just a quickie- 2 nights, 3 days. Probably head down on the PCT to Walker Meadows, loop around Emigrant Pass/High Emigrant Lake, and then out possibly via Leavitt Lake Rd. I'll bring back a report!

I'm envious! Sadly, I won't make it to the Emigrant this year. However, I will be out in Yosemite next month and can hardly wait...!
