Um... Do you mean "rain gear"?

If so I have used a Marmot Orical jacket and pants since '05 and it has kept my dry. Very little noticeable wear and tear considering how much use, washing and re treating it has been done. I think it just depends on what you want in a jacket though. (# of pockets, vents, removable hood, etc...)

Actually, after this summer season Im going to retire it and get some new stuff. Not because it dosent work anymore, but because Im sick of wearing the same 'ol jacket!

Also, if you treat darn near any rain jacket with nixwax your good to go.

Why you need waterproof gear for swimming holes? Swimsuit if it's pretty popular and underwear or birthsuit if it's remote.

or birthsuit if you simply want to make it more popular.

Yeah, you might as well take a drysuit with you to lay in while on the beach.

Birthday suit not for any popularity, but to feel the water the way its supposed to be felt!

The Granite Gear dry bag is a great gift that even a picky shopper could use.

What is your budget?

Patagonia swim wear would be a great gift, if the recipient doesn't like it, they could exchange it in the store for a store credit and get something else.

Another things to consider:
Chaco Z1 Sandals (I like Z1s in case you want to put a pair of socks on when it gets chilly)
Travel Towel by Eagle Creek

If it was my birthday, I would love to receive a NeoAir pad - pricey enough to be silly to replace my ProLite pad...
