"they say they are not quite sure what will happen once the water is removed"

Any thoughts on what might happen? This doesn't sound good to me...

The title is not clear.
There are many glaciers on Mont Blanc.
The Mont Blanc glacier is one of them.
The Mont Blanc glacier is situated on the Italian side.

They are talking about the Tete Rouge glacier which is on the Chamonix side.
The work is undergoing now and for this reason the train that takes climbers and hikers to the Nide de L`Aigle is closed...

There is no Mont Blanc glacier. This concern Bionnassay glacier close to Tête Rousse hut.
Here are some pictures from the disaster of 12th of July 1982 (at least 175 victims)

Some more informations here

A very funny videoclip here :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeKzXlL6BdM`
The way from Mont Lachat to Nid d'Aigle is closed but there is a new route from Mont Lachat direct to Cabane des Rognes.

Crazy! I just watched a documentary on NOVA about the previous disaster where a huge avalanche and mud slide wiped out the town. Those sub-glacier lakes are pretty wild!

This a very clever answer. Dude.
By the way, I am not sure you're clever. There is no mention about any Mont Blanc glacier but about "...a glacier on Mont Blanc which threatens to flood the Saint Gervais valley..." according to this material.
