New member saying hello to SP!

by ampman1961 » Fri Aug 27, 2010 4:51 am

Greetings to all here at SP.
My name is Billy Yates, and I live in Venice Ca. USA.
I'm not a climber or thrill seeker, but a recording artist who loves Mountains.
I am planning to get myself back into shape suitable for Hiking sorties
and ultimately planning some treks in Oregon, Washington and NorCal.
You will never find me free climbing a vertical wall but scrambling over boulders
and moderate climbs is my goal, but more importantly, the networking and building
of friendships and good times is also a priority. I love people and the environment.
I don't have much to offer in the areas many of you live for but I play a wicked guitar
and love to have fun. The most notable "summits" in my life are centered around
being a member of the recording group, "The Outlaws" and performing with a
multitude of amazing people from Leon Russel to Little Feat and beyond.
My love of mountains and the need to get back to my youthful wanderings
through forests and mountains brings me here, to what I feel is one the finest
sites on earth. I am so impressed by SO MANY people here, it's amazing what you all do.
I am in awe of the character, dedication and skill of you all, that it inspires me to
push myself back into that place where mankind and nature coincide.
Thanks so much for all of what all of you do, I am truly blown away.
I remain humbled,
Billy Yates

Welcome Billy. And you could never go wrong starting out with collective ego-stroking like you've done. Good move. :)

Welcome to SP. It is never too late to start hiking and climbing mountains and hills. You should see a lot of Green Grass and High Tides when you are out there. I had the Outlaws album Playin' To Win in the early 80's and listened to it a lot.

The "Ghost Riders In The Sky" are particularly beautiful when viewed from an isolated peak
in the wilderness.

Thanks Susan.
Wise guys never hurt me
Though it's not as dangerous as hanging on a line up 3000 ft,
playing in front of 20,000 people takes a bit of courage.
I want to go back up to Ansel Adams area off 395. So many
beautiful places to go.
