What happens when you stop climbing...

by marcminish » Tue Aug 31, 2010 5:22 am

First, the bad news... you get hideously fat and devoted to your work.

Next, the good news... your wife gets pregnant because you were not out crawling around on rocks risking life and limb, and, errr, not to mention the family jewels.

:D  :D

Dear lads from SP... I can't tell anyone else under penalty of castration. Even the family doesn't know yet. It seems that we must wait until the 1st trimester is over before we tell anyone that I'm going to be a daddy. That date is September 8th so... SHHHHHH... don't tell anyone else you know. I'm as happy as a clam even if I'm forced to read a book called "What to Expect When You're Expecting."

Good luck to you all. God I miss the cliffs but wouldn't change it for anything. :)

Doomed happily.

Yup... yee all masses know before even my mom, grandma, her family (save her sister and my brother-in-law), one of our brides' maids and two groomsman from the wedding. I can tell you all this because it is highly unlikely that my mom will read this thread. :)

September the 8th is sonogram day. I've got the day off that day.

My dear wife has devised a funny way to tell the family. We're going to cook them dinner at our house and then, for dessert, serve them pickles and ice cream. Surely they'll grasp that one. :D :D :D :D

Two well written and humorous posts marcminish. Congratulations!

Is this your first? (not sure if the pair in one of your photos are your own or a relatives)

Yeah, this one is the first. The two girls in the pic are my wonderfule nieces... my brothers's kids. To them I'm Uncle Marc... the guy that buys ice cream and sends packages of dolls from FAO Schwartz. :)

Kids are nice- especially when you do not have responsibility for them. But likely yours will be splendid as well. Congrats again!

I feel honored. We should have a poll to decide the kid's name.

Girls' names: Shasta, Whitney, Hillary, Sunflower...

Boys' names: Irvine, K2...

Congratulations Marc!

The day you're going to go for the ultrasound (Sept. 8 ) my daughter will be 6 months old. I miss the hills too, especially hanging out with my SP friends, but this is still the best thing that ever happened to me. I'm sure you'll enjoy being a Dad, I can already see it in your post.

The mountains will still be there a couple years from now, and we'll be back to our adventures, hopefully together with our little ones.

Hey Marc, one of my kids spent Saturday night puking and all Sunday moaning in bed. Yesterday, another caught the bug and puked something like ten times. And my wife's out of town, of course. Today, my stomach feels a little funny, but I think that's from the cigar and beers last night.

Great things to look forward to!

But seriously, congratulations. And teach the youngster to watch that creeping socialism.

Congratulations, Marc! Glad we could hear it first.

Oh, you have no idea what you're getting into. But it's worth it.

Congrats also. Your life will be different. There will be many sleepless nights and other worries, but it's all worth it.

Still find it a bit strange that you told it first a bunch of strangers though
