I think we'll go up to Scotland and do the Cullin Ridge instead. Matterhorn will be a 2011 thing i guess.

Anyone know if anyone has been going up the Matterhorn? My father just got into Zermatt today after doing the Tour du Mont Blanc and was hoping to make the Matterhorn. I noticed in the previous posts Moni you said that it was already more or less closed. Anyone with any more info? He would be using the Zermatt guide services.

The Matterhorn does not get "closed", the conditions just get too bad for most people to make the climb.

If he is going with a guide, the guide will decide if it is safe or not.

See granitepeaker's summit log entry here for what it was like on Aug. 3

I did not say it was closed, I said it was out of condition. Another guy on another thread asked about mid November climbing, and in that I stated that by then most huts are closed, but I never used the word closed in this thread.

Fred and Moni...yes I understand I worded it badly, I know it is not "closed" just depends on the guides and mountain conditions. The intent was to see if folks had been up, either on their own or with the Zermatt Guide services, as an indication as to what the conditions were.

Check the Webcam It will give you an idea of current conditions. Right now, it looks like a lot of the snow has gone off, but obviously the next storm could change that.

it was good last Thursday/Friday, I was on Lion Ridge. But a big storm is due to close it this week. Forecast is for snow Tues/Thur. That might keep it closed for the season.
