Adopt Weavers Needle page?

Postby Bob Sihler » Wed Sep 22, 2010 2:37 am

While cleaning out some really bad pages, I came across the page for Weavers Needle: http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/150850/weavers-needle.html.

It is not the worst page ever, but it is a real disappointment for one of Arizona's most spectacular peaks. If you have climbed the peak and think you could do a nice job taking care of the page, let me know. The owner has been inactive for a long time. After you revamp the page, I can erase the low votes from before.

I am not going to delete the page, but it would be great if someone wanted to adopt it.

P.S. This person also has the Picacho Peak page, and it, too, could use some TLC: http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/150851/Picacho-Peak.html.

I just saw my question from March 2008, when I asked if a view "from the west" was really a view from the east; I got no response. I'm guessing that the author isn't really active.

Yep, another "bummer" of a page for Arizona.

How 'bout Dave and Deb? They climbed it on New Year's Eve a few years back.

Maybe you should give them a ring-a-ding.

We did both Weavers and Picacho some 15 then 23 years ago. I agree, it is a crappy page descript. I just put this and more to SP. Tons of terrible info. How many decline to try it since it says "5.5" is beyond me as I deem it class 4. But it does gives road directions which I don't have except from the DPS Guide. If I could do those both again, I'd gladly take the pages, those are two fine desert peaks. But I find many errors or bad info, and decline to post anything. I'll answer to forum queries but I just leave it to SP for any liability. I have my own website and info, and if you wish to know anything from me, my e-mail link is there.

There is a route from west, as well as a route from the east; but the map given by author shows an approach from the east and describes a climb from the west. The route from the west does have a stretch rated 5.6 by DPS.

Bob Burd also did the west climb; maybe ...

This is for a route page for Superstition Peak, not Weaver but given to their proximity to each other I figured I'd add this post. Hieroglypic Canyon as a route needs much attention. It hasn't had any updates since the author added the page nor has he been active. That's since 2006. I just did the route and a lot more detail should be added.

You should see if they are willing to let you adopt it.

If going in I would have known the route info was lacking so much I would have taken care to take notes etc with that intent. I couldn't add enough at this point to make a substantial change in the page. Also, I didn't have an adequate camera to take photos to add to the page. I will be back to the area next year, if the page hasn't changed any, I will make that request. Thanks Bubba!

Yep, New Year's 2009 ringing in 2010. I'll take the page and give a good attempt at up-dating it. Thanks!
