Cheapest 4-Season tent

by DanTheMan » Wed Sep 22, 2010 8:47 pm

Anybody have recommendations for a 2 person 4-season tent that can stand up to strong winds? All of the threads I found were mostly looking at very lightweight $500+ options. I am not in a position to be trading cash for lbs at the moment, and just need something dependable and within reason on weight. 7 or 8 lbs I can live with, $1000 I can't.

Here is a new Sierra Designs Hercules tent for $336.00 on Ebay. Meets your criteria: four seasons, less than 7 pounds. http://cgi.ebay.com/Sierra-Designs-Herc ... 27b512bb92. Looks like you can make a cheaper offer.

The North Face Mountain 25 also on Ebay, a little heavier and pricier though: http://cgi.ebay.com/new-North-Face-MOUN ... 4cf0fe2610

I buy 3 season tents that are well constructed for high winds. I have had my Alps mountaineering extreme 2 tent in 60 mph winds. Its been in the snow a bunch and is coming up on its 3rd winter season. Its cheap and gets the job done for me. I take very good care of my things and it still has no major signs of wear. (minus the 1/2 in. tear in the fly after having a rock fall on it while on Rainier... )

REI makes some really nice 2 person mountaineering tents. I have the Arete and would use and have used it in the sierra year round no problems. Weighs 6 or 7 pounds maybe.
