Anyone have experience with a winter ascent of Mt. Williamson? My friend and I are doing some winter mountaineering in the high Sierras this January, and we're thinking about some mountains and routes. The Long Twisting Rib seems awesome, but we're not sure how it handles in the winter. Any info would be much appreciated, as I couldn't find much in the way of winter ascents on the route description page.

No experience on the Long Twisting Rib but tried South Fork of Bairs Creek twice, Sheppard Pass once and Geoge Creek once. Did it in Jan, Feb and Mar. January you will fine the worst possible snow conditions. Everything will be powdery and there will be suffering. Enjoy!

No experience with it, but I want to do the NE ridge this winter! I'm trying to convince my partner but I don't think he's 100% up for it...

Do a search at YouTube for 'mount williamson winter' ... It's an education, to say the least!

I once did the regular route via Shepherd Pass in February. It started snowing as we reached the summit. 6" by the time we got back to Anvil Camp and 12" by morning. The trip went smoothly overall, but it sure took longer that a July day hike.

that NE ridge of Williamson in winter has been something I had been hoping to do last winter, but never wound up conning anyone to suffer up that for days. No matter how you slice it, Williamson is one big, aesthetic peak...WANT!

Sounds good, that NE Ridge and/or Long Twisting rib look like an adventure at any time of the year...never knowing what will happen...alpinism at its finest!
