What are your favorite climbing films every climber should see?

Here are a few to get us started:

If anyone caught the Reel Rock Film Tour, I hope you learned as much as I did from the "Toprope Warriors" (I think that's what it was called) short film. The idea of an assisted dyno never occurred to me.

To be somewhat helpful, I thought "The Sharp End" was pretty good. The production value of climbing films keeps getting better and better.

not a real climbing, but the eiger sanction is one of my faves

The German film Nordwand which recounts the Toni Kurtz/Andi Hinterstrosser (sp?) epic on the NF Eiger is very, very good. Some of the best climbing scences I have seen in a movie.

Definitely, can't you just feel the desperation as they try to reverse the traverse without a fixed line? (shudder)

I've watched the full-length version. It's awesome. Chicks climbing hard alpine stuff. awesome. No chest beating. Perfectly humble, fun-looking stuff in spectacular settings. Awesome.


...oh yeah. No shitty music either. Awesome.

For a mass produced move: Touching the Void.

For sheer motivation, although it's not climbing related: Running the Sahara.

blood, sweat, & bagels is a fun one imho

Although in it they do everything wrong, the early Cinemascope 1950's classic, The Mountain with Spencer Tracy and Robert Wagner, is fun to watch. I like climbing scenes incorporated into plots, like in The Bucket List, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Seven Years in Tibet, and more. Eiger Sanction has to be a classic.

I really like Climbing movies. Their harder to come by apposed to bouldering movies which are a dime a dozen given their easier ability to film. And bouldering movies get a little boring for me...

Those are both good. I would have to recheck the ones I have seen, after a while their all get blended together...
