G12 Center Bar

by Ryland555555 » Fri Dec 17, 2010 3:18 pm

Hey guys. I finally bought myself a pair of double plastics and crampons. I think I am an above average sized dude that entering into the climbing world. My boots are too big for my crampons. Im looking for some help finding the extended bars for the Grivel G12's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did find the Flex bars and was wondering that since I have double plastics would that be a good choice since they have the stiff sole? Maybe I would save some weight that way? Thank you guys very much.

I would think you could order the longer bars from any Grivel dealer. Marmot Mountain Works might have them in stock, the store in Bellevue has a box in the back room with odds and ends for various ice tools, ski binders, and such. Steve House swapped the regular bar for the flexible bars in his crampons on Nanga Parbat to save weight so it has been done.

The Mountaineer in Keene, NY (heart of the Adirondack High Peaks region) should be able to help you out.

As far as the Flex bars, if your stiff-soled double boots ain't flexin', you won't be flexin' the crampon bars, so you could use those if you found them locally.

Thanks guys,

I ordered a pair from mountaineer.com. Hopefully I will have them in the mail in the next couple days. I went with the steel bar. Thanks for all the help.

Have a great time Ryland!...and remember that crampons are always trying to "kill you"...so use and store them properly and you won't come back home with more holes in your body than you left with!

Contact Liberty Mountain

They are the Grivel NA Distributor and have the "LONG BAR" for the G-12 in stock.
