Barunte

Hi,

In the descripion of Monut Baruntse in this web, it says that there is prominent ice cliff at 7000m. Does anybody knows if it means that you have to climb an ice wall (90Cº)? I've heard that Baruntse is a 7000 m "easy" peak, not technical and with some slopes that can arrive to 50Cº.

Thank you,

Hola,

A Chilean friend of mine climbed Baruntse in May 2010. Yes, there is a very steep wall / crevasse high on the ridge near 7000m. It has always been there.

I think they had to go down to the left and around on very steep ice, but it was only very short - but very hard work at 7000m.

If you go to the mountain at the same time as bigger commercial groups, they usually have Sherpas fix a rope around this section, making it much easier.
