Anyone know if there is still snow down to Manker Flats? If so, think it will last 'till Saturday? I was thinking of going up the Bowl, and want to ski all the way back down to the trailhead. Nightime lows are in the 40's...we need cooler nights or it'll be mush. I'm going up to ACH and skiing on Thursday....can't wait. :D

And bring sunscreen.

uh...YEP! Blair and I ran into pinwheels the size of tractor tires! And of course LOTSA debris from point release slides from an assortment of slopes, all over 30 degrees.

damn elusive sunscreen

Haha those things are pretty badass! Almost got hit by a few before.

Rob, good luck! I don't think it'll last that long.

The road is plowed real well, maybe some black ice in the few shaded turns. The trail should be getting melted out a bit, seeing as it's gonna be hot for a day or two until this weekend or so.

In Baldy Bowl? ALWAYS avy danger; mainly point release on climber's left from rock croppings.

Naturally, but the above posts less than a few days ago suggested heightened risk, hence my query :)

Though the bowl is melting out, the snow conditions were still excellent yesterday (April 3) in the early to mid-morning.

What a difference a few hot days makes.

And now for something completely different... canyoneering season. :-)

I went up the bowl on Saturday and there was snow past the hut but it was melting fast and causing some pretty good rock fall. I would say about 25% less snow than what is in the pic that Sam Page posted.

That looks really fun. Sounds like they had pretty good conditions most of the way up.

The NF holds some pretty decent conditions for a long time. It's like Snow Creek without the BS, and a tiny bit shorter (as in the snow tongue, not the whole gain).
