Mountain Pages with Low Scores

Postby Bob Sihler » Fri May 06, 2011 2:13 am

I've recently been going through mountain pages with low scores. There have been several that were really awful-- abandoned, no route, incomplete, no attachments-- and they've been zapped to reduce clutter and improve the overall quality of site content.

However, I've run into a problem: there are lots of bad pages that have log entries, attachments such as routes and trip reports, and photos by others. Deleting these pages would mean erasing the logs and sending the attachments into limbo, so I am reluctant to do that.

Some, I think, are better than the scores suggest and seem to have been updated after the low votes. Some still belong to active members who have no apparent interest in improving the pages. Most are just bad.

If you have some time and interest, please take a look at these pages and see if there are any you might be willing to adopt and improve. Remember that we can erase low votes so you are not saddled with bad scores.

You can start here: http://www.summitpost.org/object_list.php?object_type=1&sort_select_1=score&order_type_1=ASC.

Thank you for any consideration you give this!

By the way, please ignore the pages by strudolyubov that you will see with 0%. He has recently begun rebuilding pages that a former member deleted.

What is your minimum threshold for a forced adoption? Some, such as Morning Glory Spire in Arizona are rated low. I've done that about 15 times and know it well. Others, such as Doyle Peak have a relatively low rating of 62%. I have done that a number of times as well. There are numerous others, such as Gavilan, Capitol (misspelled Capital) Butte, and Courthouse Butte which I have been on and are rated low. If you want to turn any of those over to me, I'll take them. It will take some time to improve them, but I'll do it. I would contact Steven about Doyle to see if he is willing to improve that page, if not already done.

At 79%, Bill Williams Mt is lower than a decent rating, but Surgent is pretty active here and updates stuff, so my guess is that the BWM is not up for grabs. I also know BWM well, as I live nearby and have hiked it several times.

I'll look into those pages and try to get in touch with you about them this weekend. Thanks.
