Hey Stef

sorry, didn't see your question. The weather's pretty difficult to predict in March, it could be dry or wet and, if cold enough, it could even snow, particularily near the beginning of the month. Crib Goch will go in pretty much any weather except for strong winds, the rest can be done at any time. Obvioulsy, it's much more fun when its clear and dry.

Hey Stef

Accommodation

It depends how much money you've got.

The YHA hostels are pretty good.

Also Pete's Eats isn't bad, the food's alright too, if you like that sort of thing.

Plas y Brenin National Mountain Centre has rooms to rent, I think they have dorms too, but not too sure.

You might also want to check out www.independenthostelguide.co.uk for independent hostels (obviously)

Don't know about WiFi, sorry.

Things to do on Rest Days

Of course, this depends entirely on what sort of things you like doing and what you’ve got in terms of transport. The bus service isn’t bad, but I don’t think they have everything running for the summer tourists that early on. See Traveline Wales for timetable info.

Okay, things to do:

There’s lots and lots of castles in the area, some of which are free, some of which are not: www.castlewales.com

Llanberis has Electric Mountain, which I think has some sort of visitors centre.

There are indoor climbing walls, which have lots of bouldering if you lack a partner, at Beacon Climbing Centre and Plas y Brenin (for those rainy days!)

If you like steam trains, there’s the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways (Bryan would approve)

I’m sure there are lots of other things, but I only ever really go for the mountains…

Does anyone can help me telling me some info about the conditions on the routes to Snowdon at this moment (mid may 2011)? I am interested in the Pyg Track route, the final ridge to the top and the Miners´Track...

Thank you in advance!

For the past five years or so, May has had great weather in Wales - dry and sunny for the most part. April has been great so far, but the weather appeasrs to be turning. There will be no snow or ice on any of the routes at this time of year and all you will need is what you usually hike with in summer. This being Wales however, carrying waterproofs should be done at all times, even if the forecast is for wall to wall sunshine.

Enjoy!

No need for waterproofs if you run hard enough :)
If it rains hard you will still be soaking wet ...

Weather forecast of the local people seems to be showers in the afternoon ...

John, if you need a partner up there or just someone to have a drink with afterwards let me know ... I am in Llanberis this weekend!
