WTB strap-on

Postby Ak99654 » Fri Apr 29, 2011 1:19 am

Hi all,

Looking for crampons. Aluminum would be great, but steel BD Contact crampons or Grivel Air-Techs would be OK too. I need straps in front and back for wearing with lightweight boots. Strapon G12s would be overkill but I'd consider it if the price is right. Kahtoolas would be underkill, but OK if the price is right. If you have some aluminum Air-Techs that you broke the front points off of, that's fine too.

Thanks and happy climbing :)

And you live in Alaska?

I have two pairs of aluminum crampons -- love 'em -- but they really have their limits. Consider getting steel crampons with a flexible center bar. With flexible shoes, you can easily walk out of crampons with a stiff center bar.

In the summer; CA during the school year. I have G12s at home in AK and just need something for Shasta down here.

Thanks for the link.

Have you used these? I have looked them over online but haven't found anyone IRL who's been able to give me an opinion ...

Nope, I've just walked out of stiff crampons a lot. :?

I guess we might clarify what he means by lightweight boots. If they have even half-shanks, he would probably do OK with a stiff center bar.

I don't have anything to compare them to (besides my friends') and have only used them a few times, but they're fine. Standard 12-point CroMo strap-ons with no surprises. Haven't had them come loose, but like I said not too many hours in them. Tool-less adjustment is nice but I think that's pretty standard on any new pair. Came with anti-bots and a bag! Got them for $40 at an REI garage sale in the fall :)

Guess my mind was in the gutter when I read your headline. I have a pair of Petzl Charlet Flexlock Crampons FS if your still interested.
