Looking at waterproof cameras

by Luc » Fri Aug 12, 2011 4:39 pm

Presently looking for a good waterproof point an shoot with a wide to telephoto optical zoom (28-~100mm).
I don't think I'll need to worry about seawater (yet) and I've already got a GPS so I don't really need another one in the camera.

Panasonic - DMC-TS3
Canon - Powershot D10
Pentax - Optio WG-1
Pentax - Optio W90

I have the Panasonic. It's a nice mix of decent picture quality, small size, and rugged build. Haven't used the others.

I have the Pentax Optio W90. Quality is pretty decent, it's better for grab shots, carrying around in crappy weather. While the photos are not as good as my Nikon, I'm kinda happy with it. But they do recommend sending it in for replacing the seals every year. I haven't yet, and the photos I've done under water are a blast.

I've had the canon D10, the higher end olympus and the panasonic dmc-ts3. The panasonic is by far my favorite so far. I keep waiting for Canon to put out another as i'm a big canon fanboy, but they haven't yet. And the D10 is just too bulky.

edit: canon NOT nikon d10 :) lol

I broke two Olympus', and bough the D10, which I like a lot. I'm a pro photog and a total Canon slut, and image quality doesn't disappoint.

My partner uses the Panasonic, but he can't operate it with gloves on like I can the D10. That's worth the bulk to me.
