The caption in the above SP image makes a claim that sounds plausible and I would like to know more about it.
These are the original Tetons as named by the French fur trappers. The Hayden survey mistakenly took their names and description (three mountains in the upper Snake River Valley) and placed them on the now famous Grand Tetons.

Does anyone have any information on this that they might like to share? Thanks.
