Just wondering how people have found the parking around the start of the road? I am going in May and I am not even going to try taking my gutless rental up the road far. My last rental of the same make had a hard time going over 5 mph going to the Whitney Trail head and then it's brakes quit when I pulled into the parking lot there... needless to say it is not capable of rough road conditions and would probably get stuck in a mud puddle.

There is plenty of parking off I70 and unless you have a snow mobile nobody is heading up the road in May. I was just there a few weeks ago and you can get a rental SUV all the way to the TH when it's open without any real issues. Even saw sedans at the TH.
