Mt. Massive Glacier?

I have noted a large patch of snow that remains well into August (and probably year round) on an east facing slope to the north of Mt. Massive. See this picture:

I have never heard or read anything about this snowfield. Is this a glacier? Any info about it? :?:

It's a snowfield known as the Africa Bowl. At least that's what residents of Leadville call it.

speaking of glaciersi was up in teh elk range this july , and there were some huge snowfeilds
probably at least 5 to seven feet high and running a hundred yard downslope

could a snowfeild of that size not be a glacier?

though those snowfields are big enough to call glaciers, I believe a true glacier have to move, also they are usually at the back of a valley, not on a slope

The Montezuma Glacier below Castle in the Southern Elks had 3 very distinct crevasses showing on Sept 1, there does seem to be some type of movement happening there.[/url]

I used to live in Leadville just east of Massive and Elbert but the formation you are speaking of is called Africa Bowl because of its distinctive shape. It's a snowboarders dream run if conditions are right.

I second that. There aren't any glaciers on Mt. Massive.
