Class 5.1 to 5.5 in NC

by gwave47 » Thu Dec 15, 2011 12:51 am

Where are some good places to get experience free soloing 5.1 to 5.5 in NC. I need some training for a climb I'm planning next summer. I don't plan on using any gear except to rap.

I just hope your judgement of what you can climb is better than your Internet search skills.

I don't know your climbing experience but you may want to rope up on these first. One persons 5.easy is another persons 5. time to clean the underwear.

How about you act like a responsible climber and find yourself a belay. Your selfish climbing style puts rescue and recovery members at risk.

I don't understand how peeling a body off the ground is putting rescue members at risk. Unless your assuming rescue people do not know how to hike to the bottom of crags without putting themselves in a substantial amount of risk.

Body recovery can be just as dangerous as a rescue. Not to mention all the resources, time and emotion involved in recovery efforts.

I had the misfortune of watching a 5.10+ climber fall and die on 5.4. It could not possibly have been worth it.

Autoxfil, you have no idea what I'm training for or what kind of practice I'm looking for. You simply saw a post, interpreted how you wanted to, and chose to be an ass about it. Never did I say I want to climb a 5.4 free solo, just asked where some good places are to get some practice at it. What I will actually be climbing is a few very small moves about 10 feet is the biggest of 5.1 to 5.4. I was looking to practice at the base of some routes no more than 10 to 15 feet up to get some ideas of different moves I would face and how I would tackle them. People come in these forums for guidance and advice, not to hear you be an opinionated ass. Nobody's swinging, but if I were at least I'd have something to swing.

I don't come to these forums much, but every time I do I'm amazed at the douches on this site. The guy wanted to discuss climbing in North Carolina on a CLIMBING site and got jumped.

You only want to go up 10 feet? Uh climbing gym... Finger Board. Build your own wall. Local Climbing Rock.

http://www.indoorclimbing.com/northcarolina.html Deouche bag simplest thing in the world to type into google and find. You can learn more and faster in a climbing gym than "free soloing" sand bush filled crap.

That being said. All stuff east coast I have run across in my limited time back there visiting college friends is either dead vertical or overhanging due to a thing called Vegetation. Meaning unless its a Very well used site its gonna be covered in crap and that coming from a guy in Washington. Also dead vertical or overhanging stuff is NEVER under 5.5.
