"Bigger" or "Harder" is also highly subjective. Who says? It sounds small, you should remove it. The difficulty or technical barriers on a single route have no defining difference for the term "Alpinism" or "Mountaineering".

I will change the wording of the phrase "Mountaineers stick to the easy routes", but you will have to tell me where I wrote it because I can't find it.

I think you, Bergschrund, have your panties in a wad because the broad definitions I suggested in my article label you as a 'mountaineer' rather than an alpinist and now your feelings are hurt.

The ordinary guy often labels a post TLTR ...translation: "too long to read"

Definitions need to be as brief and concise as possible--see if you can "explain" something in ten words or less!

I"ll give it a shot:

"Alpinism is more badass than mountaineering is"

or...

"Mountaineering: basic technique on straightforward terrain...Alpinism: advanced technique on severe terrain" (12 words)

The greatest minds often attempt the shortest explanations...

How about: "Alpinism is what Alpinists do." Five words.
