I would also like a place where one can find more young people (25-35) to join up with. Is there any of the suggested places which are better than the other for meeting other young people?

Zermatt offers plenty of possibilities for at least a week and so does Arolla, Saas Almagell etc. in the neighbouring valleys.
Aosta itself also has lots of opportunities but it is more a big city apart from the trailheads -- you better go into one of the side valleys (e.g. cogne, val savaranche, breuil, val gressoney), where you can start right from your hostel or tent.I would also like a place where one can find more young people (25-35) to join up with. IMHO in Zermatt, Arolla, Chamonix it is quite easy to find other mountaineers.
For the villages in the Aosta region it is surely helpful to understand a little italian
