EB - been laying low for a few months, but had to log back in for this. You are a tremendous talent, generous contributor, and from our brief interactions, a heck of a good guy. Stay strong, think positive, and know you have many people in your corner rooting for you. We'll see you out in the hills soon my friend. All the best to you and your family. Be well dude.

That is exactly what put me in the hospital, the antifungals burned my skin off.

EB, I suck at finding quotes, BUT I remember we planned something for this summer, so you HAVE TO recover by than! Miracles happen, without them I would not be climbing, or participated in anything physical.
Your presence on SP is awesome, but your place is in the mountains.

ExcitableBoy DUDE!

The hardest climbs we will ever encounter throughout our lives have absolutely nothing to do with any Rock, Ice or Snow. It is times such as this one that we can dig deep and draw from the experiences we have had in the hills.

Focus, persevere and kick this thing in the ass. Do remember this....

What does not kill me will only make me that much stronger.

You are and will be in my prayers.

I agree with the Chief, the toughest times are often outside of climbing. The perserverance is often hard but with what you have been through based on your postes, I expect that you will take thigh high road whereas most people would get beat down. Hope all is going well, and you can beat this soon, so you can get back to the mountains.

Now as for the quote, I have a question. My stupidity hasn't killed me yet, so has it made me stronger?

EB,

I am sad to hear your condition is not improving. I will continue to pray that God will extinguish this infection and strengthen your immune system.
I hope to climb with you some day and will continue writing our series and send you some copies to keep you preoccupied.

I don't know EB very well, but from the interaction I have had with him, he seems to be a really cool fun guy.
Use those attributes to your advantage, and keep looking forward! You are a good example and role model, were all here routing for you, and always will be.

Psalm 103:3-4
"Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion."
"Hey, careful, man, there's a beverage here!"

Sometimes quotes don't mean the most and now I am providing a second, but Hotoven's piece reminded me of the one I appreciated during my toughest struggle. Nelson Mandela inspired himself and others prisoners through it, likely after finding it in literature, but I came across it in a Clint Eastwood flick about him:

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

--William Ernest Henley

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invictus

At the age of 12, Henley contracted tuberculosis of the bone. A few years later, the disease progressed to his foot, and physicians announced that the only way to save his life was to amputate directly below the knee. It was amputated when he was 17. Stoicism inspired him to write this poem. Despite his disability, he survived with one foot intact and led an active life

Best wishes.
