I have a pair of Asolo 200 boots that I'd like to use for a bigger glacier (Granite). I've tried several crampons/strap systems by grivel, BD, Petzl, but none of them will seem to fit snugly. It seems like many boots flair near the bottom and the crampons won't seat properly. Even some strategic cutting doesn't appear to help the fit. Anyone have ideas on different crampons or attachments?
I forget the boots I had, but I bought crampons a few years back and had to carve out parts of the heel to allow the crampons to fit properly. The boot had a flexible sole, so they weren't safe on steep angled traverses, but were fine for level travel and ascending and descending steep slopes up to 50 degrees, or so.
